SARAH SHRIVER SMOTHERS
I met yoga shortly after college when I moved to Washington, D.C. I was working crazy hours as a junior publicist, training and running half marathons, and quickly burning out. I wasn’t taking the best of care of myself, physically and mentally, and I began to find that the best therapy was getting on my mat as much as possible. After about a year of doing yoga consistently, I ditched my running shoes and decided to go all in with my yoga practice.
In 2017, I completed my 200-hour YTT at Down Dog Yoga (DDY), a Baptiste affiliated studio, in D.C. under the leadership of Patty Ivey. Shortly thereafter, I began sharing my love of yoga through teaching corporate classes at Hilton Worldwide, where I worked at the time. In April of 2018, my now-husband and I moved to Salt Lake City for his career with Traeger Grills — a change of pace for us both! I started teaching power restore and vinyasa flow at Salt Lake Power Yoga (SLPY) and have since expanded to teaching corporate yoga.
In 2019, I attended Baptiste Yoga Level One, Baptiste Yoga Art of Assisting, and received my 100-hour meditation certification at SLPY. I’m a firm believer that being a dedicated student and practitioner is the key to being an impactful teacher.

Salt lAKe Yogi Philosophy
In my studies, I learned that before yoga became a noun it was a verb. I'm certainly not a yoga historian, nor do I claim to be an expert about the evolution of yoga pre-westernization. All I know to be true is that yoga as a verb resonates with my personal journey and how this practice has changed my life on a very real and spiritual level:
“Yoga is a process. It’s active. It’s the way you engage with the world to create harmony. Yoga is how we participate and create relationship.”
And that process – the practice – is not always pretty. It’s messy…it can be both crazy and beautiful. It’s called life! And I’m ready to share my practice and life with the hope that I can inspire others to do the same.
My current schedule at SLPY: 75 minute vinyasa flow on Wednesday at 7:30pm MT.
